The English
alphabet is one of
the first things that both kids and adults are taught when they start learning
English. However, students in general find it difficult to spell properly and
they tend to mix up certain letters, such as A, E and I or G and J,
or they just mispronounce some others like R, W and Y.
Both
British and American people say the letters in the same way, except for Z, which is pronounce with /e/ like in egg in British English, and /i:/ like in tree in American English.
It’s really
important to be able to spell properly in English since, as you probably know, there
are several spellings that are pronounced with the same sound, and also, there
are different sounds that correspond to the same spelling.
Native
speakers usually spell their names and also names of places, and they do that
much more often than we do it in Spanish. It is therefore highly recommended to
get good practice in this tricky matter.
